Shintaro Miyazaki is a (junior)-professor in "Digital Media and Computation" (with tenure track) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Musicology and Media Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From 2014–2021 he has been a senior researcher at Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures of the Academy of Art and Design, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland. Miyazaki enrolled in Media Studies at University of Basel, which started in 2001 as a side degree and later it became a major course discipline. He studied mainly under Christoph Tholen and also with Wolfgang Hagen, who were fellows and friends of Friedrich Kittler. Other notable seminars he took between 2001 and 2007 part were led by political theorist Oliver Marchart or philosophers Byung-Chul Han, Tilo Wesche and musicologists Anne C. Shreffler or Peter Gülke. From 2007 on he lived in Berlin. In 2012 he defended his PhD-thesis in Media Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on the topic of algorhythmics proposing a media archaeology of digital computing and digitality supervised by Wolfgang Ernst.

Together with Özgün Eylül Iscen he is co-curating counter-n.
