Kateřina Svatoňová (1978, Prague) is a film and media theorist. Since 2009, she has been working at the Department of Film Studies at the Charles University, which she now heads. Her research focuses on media theory, history and philosophy, media archaeology of (Czech) modernity, changes in (perceptions of) space and time in visual culture, parallel histories of cinema and the relationship between film and other media. She is the curator of several exhibitions, (co-)editor of monothematic periodicals and professional publications, and author of several books, including Mezi-obrazy: Mediální praktiky kameramana Jaroslava Kučery [In Between Images: Media Practices of the Cameraman Jaroslav Kučera] (2016) and The Dictator of Time: (De)contextualizing the Phenomenon of Laterna Magika (2019).
