Axel Roch
Born 1971, has a degree in Cultural Studies and Philosophy (MA) from Humboldt University and Free University in Berlin (1999). Holds a doctorate in Media Studies (PhD) from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich (2009). Is co-founder of the Interface Laboratory while having joined the Artistic and Academic Staff at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, for three years, between 1999-2002. Was Artist-In-Residence at the Mediatower / Medienturm, Graz, in 2001. Was the David Gee Lecturer for Critical Theory of Interactive Media at Goldsmiths College, University of London, from 2002-2005. Was Guest Artist and Research Fellow at ZKM, Karlsruhe, between 2006 and 2008. Became Visiting Professor for New Media at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, for one term in 2005 and held a Summer School Guest Professorship at the Universidad del Pais Vasco, St. Sebastian, Spain, in 2006. Is now and since 2009 UD (Universitair Docent) within the Faculty of Arts at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
